Who Are You?
We are three young film-makers from London, England. Our names are Adrian Bliss, Toby Stubbs and Benjamin Robbins, and we are all still teenagers. Before BUYACREDIT.COM we had been working on commercial projects, short films and experimental videos, but when we found “Clovis Dardentor” and came up with the idea of BUYACREDIT.COM, we knew we had to give it a go. You can find out more about us on the “Clovis Dardentor” website, under the Producers’ Profile tab. Alternatively, click here.
How did you come up with this idea?
After finding Jules Verne’s unpublished gem “Clovis Dardentor” in the British Library, we knew we had to find a way to make it. We desperately thought of ways to fund it, knowing full well that no production company would even look at us at that early stage. We tried to come up with things to sell, before thinking ‘What could we sell in the film?’, ‘What are there loads of in movies?’ and then it hit us; we could sell the end credits.
What is a credit?
A credit ($10) is basically your name on the end credits of “Clovis Dardentor”, the movie we’re making through the BUYACREDIT.COM project. By buying a credit, you will become a producer on the film. You could also help fund the film by buying a Pixel-Ad ($100). With one of these you can advertise on the site on our Pixel-Ad Wall. You simply give us an advert image of your choice, and we upload it onto the wall with a link to your site.
How do I buy a credit?
Simply click here and make your way through the options. It is extremely easy. You can pay with almost every credit and debit card, as well as Paypal. You can even buy a credit by sending us an SMS text. It’s that easy! If you’d prefer to send a cheque, or arrange a money transfer, we can do that too! Just click here.
Why should I buy a credit?
By buying a credit you can become a real life movie producer and help fund “Clovis Dardentor” from as little as $10. It is the easiest way to become a part of cinema history, and every single cent makes a difference.
Are the credits listed online?
Yes. You can see the credits here.
Why should I buy a Pixel-Ad?
A Pixel-Ad is a fantastic business opportunity for any company or individual. By advertising on the site ($100) on our Pixel-Ad Wall, you can share in the project’s success and watch your own web traffic grow. To see how Pixel-Ad’s work, take a look at the Pixel-Ad Wall.
How long will my Pixel-Ad stay online?
We can guarantee that the site (including The Pixel-Ad Wall) will remain online for at least five years. We hope to keep it online forever.
Is my purchase an investment? i.e. Will I receive a share of the profits?
Unfortunately not. Although that would be great, it would just be impossible to orchestrate. Seeing as a credit costs such a small amount, it is really more of a donation. By buying a name credit, you are buying a part of cinema history and becoming a movie producer in your own right…where else can $10 get you that? Pixel-Ad’s are different. It is more of a business solution, as by having a patch of advertising on our site ($100), your own site/business is reaping the rewards through increased web traffic.
Can I invest privately?
If you would like to, yes. Please contact us if you are interested.
What do I get if I give more than the minimum of $10 for my credit?
The Top 100 Producers list on the Credits Page displays our most generous producers in realtime. If you give enough, you could see yourself on there! The list will be frozen when the film’s budget is fulfilled, at which time, every one populating it will receive a truck-load of cool extras. Tickets to the premiere, a draw for a walk on part and a dedicated section in the end credits are all but a few.
How long will the credits be?
It all depends. Many people choose to donate more to the project than the minimum $10, which means there will be fewer names on the end credits. It is estimated that the credits will last for about 15-20 minutes. Although almost unheard of, we feel that this will be more of a spectacle than anything else. A great towering list of everyone who helped make the film possible would just be incredible.
Can I change my name on the credits once I’ve bought one?
Sorry, no. The name you put in is how it stays! However, if you made spelling mistakes, we can deal with those. Just follow the instructions here.
Can I buy credits for other people?
Yes. Just put their name in the box when buying one.
If I buy a credit, do I get a say in the production?
As a matter of fact, yes. The internet allows for a whole new age of film-making, and seeing as you’d be a producer on the film, you would definitely get a say on how things are done. You can engage in live discussions on Twitter, and voice your opinions, or if you’d prefer you could submit your ideas on the Producer Portal. An example of how the producers DO get a say was when we were thinking about changing the movie’s name from “Dardentor” back to the original “Clovis Dardentor”. We asked all of our producers on Twitter what they thought, and nearly everyone, including Stephen Fry tweeted back preferring the latter…so we changed the name!
Can I get actively involved in the film’s production?
We heartily encourage this as without the help and favours of our supporters, the project would be impossible. If you would like to offer your services, please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you want to submit your thoughts, ideas and opinions as a producer, just use the Producer Portal!
As a producer, how can I keep up to speed with what’s going on?
The idea of the project is to keep the production of “Clovis Dardentor” as open as possible. Seeing as the public are the producers, why shouldn’t you be able to know the score? You can stay up to date through our News Blog, Weekly Newsletter, Video Blogs and through the “Clovis Dardentor” website. For real-time updates, you can follow us on Twitter.
How do you know the film is going to cost $2 Million?
Two Million is roughly what we will need to make the film. By taking advantage of contacts and favours, we are confident that this amount will be enough.
What if you raise more than the target?
We would take a serious look at the budget break-down and see which areas would benefit most with extra money. Any amount over the target will only make the film easier to make, and possibly better. For example, if we raised more than the target, we could afford to build better sets/use more expensive set pieces etc.
What if you don’t ever raise enough money?
If disaster strikes and we never raise the full budget, everyone will be refunded. No questions asked.
Where does the money go?
As soon as you buy a credit or Pixel-Ad, the money goes directly into our secure bank account and is not touched until the full production budget is fulfilled. Every single cent will be spent on the film’s production and nothing else.
How do I know you’re going to make a proper movie?
Although this is hard to prove, we can assure you that “Clovis Dardentor” IS going to be a proper movie. When production begins, it will be produced and created just like any other cinema release film. We have an excellent script and are looking at some big names to play the principle characters. We have already cast Annette Badland and Stephen Fry in these early stages. Our short film JAM, which follows a day in the life of the dastardly Mrs Desirandelle (a character in the original novel) is designed to prove that although we are young, we are capable of making something to a high cinematic standard. You can watch JAM here.
What is “JAM” and how is it related to the feature?
“JAM” is a short film/featurette set at a village Jam competition and telling the story of “Mrs Desirandelle” (a character in the original novel and the feature) as she desperately tries to win the annual Jam making contest. It stars Stephen Fry, Frank Skinner, Phillip Schofield, Gary Rhodes, Patricia Hodge, Annette Badland, Lynda Bellingham and Paul Daniels & Debbie McGee. The purpose of the short film is to give our supporters a taste of the feature and also to show them that we CAN make something to a cinema standard. We wanted to prove our worth with something visual. You can watch JAM here.
What’s the movie about?
“Clovis Dardentor” is a feel-good story of two young friends who try to buy their way out of dangerous money troubles with London gangsters by rescuing large-than-life heirless billionaire, Clovis Dardentor, who has proclaimed that he will give his entire fortune to any man whom should save his life. The problem is the ultra-capable Dardentor doesn’t need rescuing. They on the other hand, do. Their ham-fisted attempts to endanger Dardentor take them on death defying adventures in Croatia where they learn that friendship is worth more than money and rescuing someone is not as easy as it may seem.
When will you start filming?
At this time it is impossible to set even a rough date. We hope to begin principal photography towards the end of 2010.
Will “Clovis Dardentor” be in cinemas?
That is certainly the aim. With the hype and publicity surrounding the project, combined with what should be a fantastic feature film, we have every confidence that a theatrical release will be possible.
